How can Augmented Reality be best utilised to enhance Children's Storybooks?

Honours AR Project

To produce this AR experience was an extremely insightful experience that forced me to continuely adapt to challenges of production. The project originally was intended to be created using Unreal Engine 5 however due to issues with the engine I had to pivot and teach myself to use Unity to continue development. I made more progress with Unity however I had to use the extention Vuforia to be able to create the experience. Using Vuforia's tracker I created an image marker of the invite from my storybook for the AR experience to best link the two creative artifacts. I also tested adding some basic interactivity through clickable dialogue to explore the effectiveness of including interactions for narative purpose and engagement.

Original Children's Storybook

The Magic Library

Books come to life in the magic library...
You are specially invited by the kind fairy librarian to join her in this magical library...
However when trouble strikes in one of the books can you help restore the peace?

This Children's storybook was created through using Unreal Engine and Adobe Indesign for formatting. I created the models using Autodesk Maya and also textured the models with Substance Painter. I created this story to better understand what aspects of a narrative needed to be considered and adapted for the AR component of my study.
